Hi everyone,

Today I'm going to show you how I built my own USB-DMX interface, based on Steven Breuls' project (find more at http://stevenbreuls.com/). This interface work as an Entecc Open DMX and works with any Lighting Software. I personally use it with Freestyler DMX to run my equipment as a mobile DJ.

Equipment:

usb-dmx board (modified, see more on http://stevenbreuls.com/)

Drill and 23mm Drill cutter

Neutrik Connectors

NAUSB-W

NC3FD-LX

Small plastic box (I used an electric box, IP55 grade of protection)

Tin solder

Riveter or at least some screws

Double-sided tape and scissors

Usb Cable (USB Type A - USB Type B)

Step by step Guide

1)

First thing to do is make a couple of holes in you box, be sure to make it of the correct diameter (at least do it smaller, and the you can fix it with the conic drill). Then do 4 smaller holes to secure the Neutrik connectors to the plastic box.

2)

Once you've done the holes you have to fit the usb dmx board on the bottom of the box. I used a small plywood board in order to get a better result. Use some double-sided tape to glue the USB-DMX to the plywood board.

3)

Then take a usb cable, the shortest you can find (mine was too long so I had to cut It) and connect the Neutrik connector to the USB-DMX board.

4)

Next step consists in soldering the 3 tips of the Neutrik XLR panel mount connector: you should use solid core cable

5)

Then connect the soldered cables to the terminal connectors of the USB-DMX board. To see

more about the correct wiring take a look at stevenbreuls.com

6)

So, it's almost done. Once the board is inside the plastic box and you've wired the board accurately then you just have to rivet the panel mount connectors to the plastic box.

7)

And here's the final result

I hope you liked it, if you have any question write down below in the comment! See you next time

Marco
